MG-217
Question:
Has anyone tried this lotion/cream? I’ve been hearing on the radio that it offers some relief from the itching and flaking. Does it?? Thanks

Hi, ILeone… or is that Leone? Welcome. Yes, I’ve used it. It works ok, not great… it’s just another coal tar product, in a sort of vaseline-like ointment. I still use it on the odd spot, although most of my big plaques are now controlled with methotrexate. (NOTE: I am NOT advocating mtx for psoriasis alone, unless very severe. I take it for my rather aggressive pa, and enjoy the relative freedom from the psoriasis as a pleasant side effect.) If coal tar stuff works for you, this will probably work ok. Best regards, LadyAndy2

It’s reasonably good at treating mild to moderate symptoms. It is a relatively strong coal tar preparation in a petrolatum ointment base. It stinks, unless you’ve gotten used to that coal tar smell (which I have learned to love). It can irritate normal skin, so be careful. Also, the jar I bought in California indicates that it contains recognized carcinogens. That is, coal tar. http://homepage.interaccess.com/~triton/MG217.htm 10% coal tar solution (equivalent to 2% coal tar), along with some moisturizers and whatnot. There are several other OTC coal tar products on the market(s), mostly shampoos, though. A check of Health Canada’s online databases might turn up the names of some which are approved up there. – Dave W.

Hi, My skin has been relatively clear for about three monthes. But, this is my bad time of year. Between the change in whether, mild allergies, colds, flu and strep my skin is starting to flare a little…mostly around the ankles. I was hoping that someone would be able to post the ingredients listed in MG-217. They don’t carry it here in Canada but I thought I might be able to purchase something comprable. I figure that the more proactive I can be the better. TIA Jennifer
