Fingertips and Diaper Rash Ointment!
Question:
I’ve had bad psoriasis on the fingertips for many years. It gets so bad that the fingertips crack and bleed – even painful (and, I use a computer quite a lot in my job). Like many of you, I’ve tried virtually every type of cream and lotion ….including herbals. Of course, I’ve also done the steroid creme route (and, steroid shots for bad flareups)… When family members need hand lotion, they don’t buy it, all they have to do is stop by my house – try anything they want! Last year, I started cutting fingertips off of latex gloves and wearing those most of the time (yes, looks goofy, but who cares!)… A few months ago, I stopped the steroid creme… now comes the part that makes you think I’m looney (which, perhaps I am)…. About 4 months ago, I tried Diaper Rash Cream (Aveeno) that has Zinc Oxide in it on my fingertips. Within two days, my fingertips felt much better, looked better, and within a week no more cracks or raw skin. Once in a while I would mix in a drop or two of ‘ReliOn’ (with Tea Tree Oil – available at Walmart) to make it a creamer consistency. Now, I am down to just one finger that has any visible signs (and, no real problem typing). Two weeks ago I picked up a tube of Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment that has 40 percent zinc oxide….much thicker so I usually add a drop of the ReliOn Fingers ointment or the Aveeno creme. I then rub it all over the hands as I have other small spots there as well. It is thick …can leave hands, fingertips a bit white for a while….but, it seems to be working for me!(and no more steroid creme) So….just a suggestion for those of you who have tried everything for your fingertips… Hey, and if it doesn’t work, have a baby then the creme won’t go to waste! I have also found good ol’ Zinc Oxide Cream to be one of the most comforting and helpful thing I can do for my inverse P in the genital areas. Like you say, it does better than steroid creams, it must be the zinc oxide, and the thickness to protect the skin. Dan
