Ditto for me… it was just overpriced, overhyped 1% tar stuff.

I’ve tried many products. I have the best results with a product called hydrolatum, or hydrated petrolatum. You can ask a pharmacist to order it (it’s OTC), but I just call the company direct at 800-601-3843. It costs me $6 per pound jar plus freight. Real inexpensive, and it works great on dry, scaly skin! Good luck! Tom

Two things to add. according to the tv news report this is "over-the-counter" rather than Rx. the phone number (which I haven’t tried, btw) is 1-800-617-3545. sid

Exorex is made out of Banana Peels and Coal Tar. I have called the 800# and am told it costs between $70 and $120 per month. I have not tried it and don’t know anyone who has as yet. But am curious about it.
Response:
Has anyone heard of a cream called Exorex that is made by a Dr. Michael Holick, director of the Psoriasis Research and Treatment Program at Boston U. It is made from the fattyacid in a banana peel.
Response:
Does any one know anything about Lichens Sclerosis… my physicians assistant at my GYN thinks that is what I have and didn’t say much else. Only reference I have seen it in has been on some web sites dealing with vulvar cancer. Any bit of knowledge will help. Susan A.

I don’t know much, but it’s been marketed in South Africa for a while, and now it’s available in the U.S., or will be shortly (none of the drug stores in my area carry it). CBS This Morning did a piece on it a couple months ago, and their resident doctor, who’s always a little cautious about new products, said it appears to do what the manufacturers claim. If I understood him correctly, it’s a coal tar cream, like Tegrin, Mazon, etc., but the added ingredient (from the banana peels) helps it to get into the skin better. Bill

It is made from the fattyacid in a banana peel. Exorex is a South African product. To my knowledge it is NOT made by Dr.Hollick. It is made by a Mr.Piet Meyer who originates from South Africa. He is a man with no medical background and if I recall correctly he too is (was) a P sufferer. The product was launched in SA about 2 years ago under the name of Linotar. It has a very strong ad campaign behind it so beware of this. It was sold in different strengths for different applications and DID NOT have a cheap price tag on it. It is NOT recognised by the SA medical fraternity; as a matter of fact some dermies look down on it. It does not seem to have any side effects and is very "soft" on the skin. IMO it does not work as it did NOT help me BUT BUT BUT many a P sufferer in SA has claimed success with it. To put it simply its a case of horses for courses; this concept is probably the most heavily hit one in this whole newsgroup. What doesn’t work for me might work for you so dont believe my or any mails, simply give the Exorex a chance and if it works for you then Voila! Hope this helps. — From Selwyn Davidowitz. I don’t want to be negative about Exorex but, I tried it at the recommended dilution 5:1 and then, a few days ago, at 10:1 (the larger number is distilled water) just two days ago, and still suffered from the side effect of VERY dry skin. To be fair, I’m not sure if it was the Exorex, itself, or the emulsion that is applied with it (which I thought was supposed to lubricate the area and seal in the Exorex) or, the fact that the treated area is on the palms. Anyway, right now my skin is raw and painful. Just thought I’d share my personal experience. It might do just fine for you. Arlene
